K12Translate Launches Translation Grant Program

K12Translate Launches Grant Program Supporting K-12 Initiatives to Build Home-School Connection with Non-Native English Speaking Students

Portland, Oregon – May 5, 2010 – K12Translate, the leading K-12 translation service, today announced its first K-12 Translation Grant Program, designed to support schools and districts that are pursuing initiatives to build the home-school connection with non-native English speaking students and their families. The leading K-12 translation service will award three in-kind translation grants totaling $2,000 to K-12 schools or districts who are already involved in translation initiatives. The deadline to submit proposals is June 15, 2010.

The grants may be used for translation services in more than 50 languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, Hmong, Polish and more. To apply, schools and districts must submit a proposal that includes a description of their translation initiative and the communities they are trying to reach, information about other grants that they have received to support this initiative, and a description of how the K12Translate grant would be used. Three grants will be awarded: one for $1,000 in services and two for $500 in services.

Every day, we work with K-12 schools and districts that are pursuing ambitious initiatives to ensure that they communicate clearly and effectively with their non-native English speaking students and their families," said Chanin Ballance, president and CEO, K12Translate. “We developed this new K-12 Translation Grant to help schools around the country breakdown the language barriers and build strong home-school connections to support reaching and learning for all of their students."

K12Translate offers translation services for any project a school district might have from small projects, such as health notices or field trip permission slips, to larger documents, such as school manuals and educational materials. The company works with more than 1,000 native-speaking translators to ensure that the finished product uses the appropriate dialects and reflects cultural sensitivities. To ensure the highest quality, all K-12 education translations are put through the same rigorous process. They are translated by a native-speaking translator, proofread and edited by a secondary native speaker for accuracy and reviewed by a K12Translate project manager for completion and final delivery.

viaLanguage, a leading provider of global translation and localization services, launched this business unit dedicated to serving K-12 schools a year ago to serve the growing demand for these services. Today K12Translate is the nation’s leading professional, online translation service for schools and provides translation services in more than 50 languages to the nation’s top school districts.
